AT A GLANCE

Build a Stella Sora team around the interaction you want to use, then assign one Main Trekker and two Support positions. Keep the required buff, trigger and damage type when substituting a partner. A shared element helps identify candidates, but the same-element Vanguard / Support / Versatile recipe is not a requirement for every working team.

Team-building principles and source-dated examples from original community guides. The examples explain specific interactions; they are not a current all-mode team ranking or an anniversary balance comparison.

Main position and damage contribution are different jobs

The Main position identifies the Trekker whose on-field actions you control. Support Skills can contribute buffs, damage and the interaction that drives the build. Do not assume that the Main position must contain the character with the largest share of damage.

The documented Terra Mark example puts Nazuna in Main with Gerie and Tilia supporting. The setup prepares buffs and then uses Gerie’s Support Skill to trigger the marks. That is why a character’s class label or rarity cannot, by itself, tell you which position to use.

Use the encounter’s stated weaknesses

Read the mode’s own enemy information before replacing the whole team. For the announced October 19 anniversary Cataclysm rotation, Zone 1 lists Lux and Ventus vulnerabilities, while Zone 2 lists Lux and Aqua. Those are the announcement’s two zone conditions, not a promise that one of those elements is always favored in Cataclysm.

Elemental suitability and damage-type suitability are separate checks. An Aqua buff aimed at auto attacks does not automatically improve an Aqua skill-focused build in the same way. Match the wording of the buffs to the damage the team actually uses.

Replace the missing job, not just the missing name

A practical substitution check

Scroll the table sideways on a narrow screen.

A practical substitution check
Missing pieceCheck before substitutingWhy the replacement can fail
Core trigger or enablerDoes the new partner apply or trigger the required effect?A different source of raw damage does not restore the missing interaction.
BufferDoes the buff affect the same element, attack type and target?A strong buff for a different damage type may contribute little to this build.
A partner with a fixed skill areaCan you place the effect where the enemy will remain?A moving boss can leave the buff or debuff area even when the character is technically compatible.
A limited partnerIs there an available lower-rarity option for the same necessary job?Sharing rarity or element does not establish equivalence; retain any lost effect as a trade-off.

Maygii’s historical Chitose auto-attack guide gives an actual alternative: Teresa plus either Iris or Freesia. In that analysis Iris provides a more consistent support package, while Freesia’s stronger potential upside depends on a chance-based effect. The choice illustrates consistency versus variance; it does not establish a universal current replacement for Donna, Willow or every later Aqua teammate.

Check the lineup and the saved build together

  • Name the team’s main interaction and the partner that enables it.
  • Check that the planned Main Disc effects buff that interaction, and that Support notes help activate the needed Harmonies.
  • Use Potentials that preserve the team plan before collecting unrelated upgrades.
  • Compare the result in the mode you are preparing for. Record score alone does not measure whether the lineup handles that encounter.

Use the combat guide when positioning and support timing are the missing part of the rotation.
